Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Kerri Brennan from Frozen Moments Portraits tells you what questions you need to ask to find the perfect photographer!

1)  How many weddings have you done?

2)  What specifically is included in the cost?

3)  What happens if I cancel? What happens if you cancel?

4)  Do you use a contract?

5)  Do you carry liability insurance?

6) What is the photographer’s style — traditional, photojournalistic, etc.?

7) Do you shoot in a digital format that can create both color and black and white versions of the same picture?

8 )What will the photographer and assistant wear?

9) Can I look at a complete wedding album you have shot?

10) Are you the wedding photographer who will actually take our pictures?

11) Can I give you a list of specific shots we would like?

12) Do you have backup equipment?

13) What time will you arrive at the site?

14) Is my wedding the only one he or she will be shooting that day?

15) What is the ordering process?

16) Are any of the images edited and/or retouched?

17) Have you been to this location? If not, will you visit beforehand?

20) Why did you choose to be a wedding photographer? (this question will allow you to determine whether your photographer is truly passionate or just cares about a paycheck)

21) Will you stay additional time if the wedding runs behind?

22) How long do you estimate the formals will take?

23) Do you have any samples of church weddings? (very important if you are having a church ceremony with a no flash policy)

24) Has every picture in your portfolio been taken by you (or the photographer which will be covering our wedding)?

25) What are your payment terms?

26) Am I able to add or subtract once the contract is signed?

Amy Murphy’s tells you the timeline of When to do What Before Your Wedding.

The To do before the I do: Hair, Skin, Waxing, and Nails!!

Hair:

  • Experiment with any new colors and haircuts at least 3 months before the wedding day.
  • Get a final haircut and color 7-10 days before the wedding day.
  • At home try Alterna’s Overnight Repair for damaged hair, or 3 minute Shine Boost for normal to dull hair. Using either or both of these products weekly at home will ensure radiant, healthy hair on the wedding day!
  • Brainstorm and collect pictures of hairstyles for the wedding day. Book a few trials starting about 3 months before the wedding day, and don’t forget to bring your veil and headpiece.

Skin Care:

  • For acne and/or clogged pores, book a deep cleansing facial once a month. Try the Repechage Hydra Medic Facial, or the Four Layer with a deep pore cleansing. 4-6 weeks before the wedding do a hydrating facial such as the Four Layer (without a deep pore cleansing), the Vita Cura Firming Facial, or Hydra Dew Facial. Any of these 3 can be done the day before or even day of the wedding as well!
  • For skin that is not clogged or congested, a hydrating facial such as the Four Layer Facial, Vita Cura Firming Facial, or Hydra Dew Facial can be done once a month to prepare skin, and can even be done the day before or day of the wedding as well!
  • At home, to take care of your skin and maintain it, cleanse, tone, and moisturize in the morning and evening. Use an exfoliating product like the Repechage Honey and Almond Scrub 1-2 times a week.

Waxing:

  • Try waxing any new areas at least 3 months before the wedding day to see how your skin will react. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, and how long it takes for the skin to calm down, waxing appointments should be scheduled about 4-7 days before the wedding day.

Nails:

  • Manicures and pedicures should be done no more than 1-2 days before the wedding to avoid chipping.
  • Shellac is a great alternative to gels, acrylics, and traditional nail polish. It lasts 10-14 days with absolutely no damage to the natural nail. It is slightly stronger than polish, adding an extra layer of protection to the nails. Shellac should be started at least 3 months before the wedding and maintained every 10-14 days to grow nails to the desired length. It doesn’t carry the commitment and damage (to the nails) of gels and acrylics, but it more resilient than nail polish.

Designs by NIKA PAPERWORKS LLC

Take it for a Spin! This is a VERY fun save the date. It has no photographs, but when assembled it is a spinning wheel of information for the guests to play around with. (They do all assembly for you, complimentary, it’s one less thing on your to-do list) What more could you ask for!

Who loves Damask print? We loveeee this yellow and black damask print! This is a flat-card style save the date that is about 6″ x 9″ and comes in both glossy or matte finishes.

Blast from the past. It is unlike any other, because it features two pictures on the front: one of the bride as a child and the other is the groom as a child. The save the date then opens up to a current picture of them together with their wedding information inside. This is one that guests really enjoy since everyone loves to see the pictures from the past!!

If you like scratch offs you will love this save the date! This save the date is a lottery ticket scratch off, of the couple’s wedding date. It is another interactive way to get your guests involved and to stay out of the “same old same old” rut of wedding stationery.

1. Longer cocktail hour! An hour just doesn’t cut it anymore. In order for everyone (included the Bride and Groom) to enjoy the cocktail hour, clients are requesting an hour and half to an hour and fourth-five minute!!

2. Lounge style seating! Renting furniture can transform the room for a minimal budget!

3. Family style serving! Out with the traditional menu and service and in with the modern version of a buffet! (similar price points)

4. Personalized ceremony! Focus on the couples’ interests, passions and hobbies are being written and choreographed by couples more then every before.

5. A laid back venue! The new trend is bookings at venues that have a natural setting (beaches, parks, barnyards, and other outdoor settings.)
